Earning their Stripes: The Memphis Tigers continue their C-USA farewell tour as they head to Greenville for today's ECU Homecoming game. The Big East-bound Tigers have struggled on offense this season, but pulled out their first victory of the season last week versus Rice. Memphis went to a two-QB system against the Owls, so this week the Pirates can expect to see some exchanging of Tiger signal callers. ECU will try to regain some momentum following a 40-20 loss at UCF. The Pirates will also attempt to move to 3-1 in the league for the fifth time in the last six years and post their seventh-straight Homecoming win.

WORTH NOTING

In recent years, when the Tigers and Pirates have played, the scoreboards have lit up. Since 2003 (nine games), the winner of the Memphis-East Carolina encounter scored 30 or more points eight times. But the losing teams offense didnt disappoint either, scoring 24 or more points five times. The combined points scored in the last nine games is 565, and the combined scoring-per-game average in that stretch is 31.4 points.
ECU needs to draw just 33,818 fans Saturday to surpass the 7 million mark at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium
 WR Andrew Bodenheimer
has caught at least one pass in 26-straight contests dating back to 2010. His last no-reception game was at Southern Miss on Oct . 9, 2010. Since that contest, Bodenheimer has made 92 catches for 896 yards and 3 TDs... Bodenheimer hauled in a season-high six receptions (60 yards) against UCF.
All five of FS Damon Magazus career interceptions have come at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. He currently co-leads the Pirates in tackles (42) and tops the unit in solo hits (24) after turning in a season-high nine stops vs. UTEP and following with seven at UCF.
ECU has won eight of 10 games in the Ruffin McNeill era when outrushing its opponent. Losses to SMU (2010) and Marshall (2011) are the lone exceptions. ... From a defensive standpoint, the Pirates havent allowed a rush over 33
yards this season.
Despite a 2-1 Conference USA record, ECU and its three
league opponents have played to a virtual statistical draw so far this season, identically matching scoring totals (72-72) with only three yards of separation in the total offense numbers (ECU 1,065, opponents 1,062).

GAME DAY WEATHER

East Carolina's third home game of the 2012 season shapes up as its best, weather wise. The oppressive heat of the season opener against Appalachian State will not be present, nor will the electrical activity that halted play two weeks ago in the Texas-El Paso game. There will be some changes during the homecoming contest with Memphis (4:30 p.m. kickoff), according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will descend from the low 60s to the low 50s during the Conference USA matchup. Humidity will increase from 47 percent to 85 percent. Winds will shift from East-Northeast at 6 miles per hour to West at 5 miles per hour, according to the forecast. Clear conditions should prevail with cloud cover expected to be under 10 percent throughout the fall afternoon and evening. (Filed by Al Myatt)
