East Carolina received a
bid to the NCAA Tournament on Monday and will be returning to Virginia's
Davenport Field where the Pirates
won two of three against the Cavaliers in a series
Feb. 26-28.
ECU (34-21-1) is the No. 3
seed for the Charlottesville regional and will meet second-seeded Bryant
(47-10) of the Northeast Conference at 6 p.m. Friday.
Host Virginia (37-20), the
regional's No. 1 seed, meets fourth-seeded William & Mary (29-29) at 1
p.m. Friday.
Friday's losing teams play
at 1 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game. Friday's winning teams meet
at 6 p.m. Saturday.
All games in the
double-elimination regional are scheduled to be shown on ESPN3.
The Charlottesville
regional is bracketed with the Lubbock regional, hosted by Texas Tech.
That field includes the top-seeded Red Raiders, No. 2 Dallas Baptist,
No. 3 New Mexico and No. 4 Fairfield.
The winners of those
respective regionals will play a best two of three in a Super Regional,
beginning June 10, for a berth in the College World Series, which starts
June 18, in Omaha, NE.
The Pirates are in the NCAA
Tournament for the 28th time. ECU
went 0-2 in the Coral Gables regional
in 2015 after
winning the American Athletic Conference
Tournament last year.
The Pirates will be looking
to snap out of a mini-slump that produced
an 0-2 performance in the AAC Tournament
this year.
