Williams-Sutton, Wolfe power sweep

Dwanya Williams-Sutton hit a three-run homer and Jacob Wolfe pitched the
first complete game of his career as East Carolina completed a
three-game American Athletic Conference sweep at Connecticut with a 3-2
win Sunday.
Williams-Sutton belted his
fourth homer of the season in the eighth inning for a 3-0 ECU lead after
one-out singles by Travis Watkins and Garrett Brooks.
Wolfe took a one-hit
shutout into the ninth inning when the Huskies rallied for a pair of
runs. Willy Yahn got the comeback started with a single to left center
and Duffin followed with a hit. A wild pitch allowed Yahn to take third.
Bryan Daniello reached on a fielder's choice that brought Yahn in as
Duffin was retired at second.
Gnesda's two-out single to
center brought in Daniello and got UConn within 3-2 before the Pirates
stranded the potential tying run.
Wolfe (6-3) had a
career-high nine strikeouts. The junior left-hander yielded four hits
and two earned runs. He walked two. He threw 139 pitches, 83 for
strikes.
ECU improved to 30-16-1
overall and 11-6-1 in the AAC with its first league sweep of the season.
The Pirates outhit the
Huskies (24-22, 8-9) by an 8-4 margin as Watkins and Williams-Sutton
each went 2-for-4.
Watkins led off the sixth
with a double but was among nine ECU runners left on base. Charlie
Yorgen had a double. Turner Brown, Brooks and Bryce Harman also had
hits.
The Pirates visit North
Carolina on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
