MEMPHIS — East Carolina was unable to complete an American Athletic Conference sweep on Sunday at Memphis as the Tigers scored the deciding run in a 6-5 win on a full count pitch with two out in the bottom of the ninth.

Zach Schritenthal singled up the middle off Evan Voliva (0-2) to score Cody Duncan and end the game.

ECU (23-12, 5-4 AAC) had scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie the score at 5.

Duncan came in to run for Andy Bowman after the pinch hitter drew a walk to start the Memphis half of the ninth. A sacrifice bunt by Damo DeMatteo allowed Duncan to take second.

Jake Overbey was hit by a pitch before Duncan moved to third on a fly to left by Colton Neel.

Schritenthal was due, having gone 0-for-4 with several on base before connecting for a walkoff.

The Tigers (13-23, 4-5) scored three runs in the fifth inning as the Pirates committed three of their four errors in that frame. Two runs came home on wild pitches.

ECU loaded the bases in the sixth on a single by Travis Watkins followed by walks to Turner Brown and Kirk Morgan. Charlie Yorgen had a two-run single through the right side and the Pirates tied the score on an RBI double by Parker Lamm.

Jake Little had an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth and Jacob Elliott had a run-scoring double as Memphis went ahead, 5-3.

Zack Mozingo led off the ninth for ECU with a ground rule double to right center and Eric Tyler followed with a single up the middle. Brady Lloyd came in to run for Tyler. Bryce Harman reached on a fielder's choice but the Tigers failed to get an out on the play as the shortstop committed an error. Mozingo scored and Harman was credited with an RBI.

Lloyd came home on a single by Brooks for the tying run.

Jacob Wolfe started and went four and one-third innings for the Pirates. The junior left-hander allowed six hits, two runs (one earned) with two walks and four strikeouts. Wolfe threw two of ECU's three wild pitches. Sam Lanier came in to finish the fifth. He allowed one run on a wild pitch.

Joe Ingle pitched one and one-third, yielding two hits and two earned runs while walking two. Ingle struck out one and hit a batter.

Chris Holba finished up the seventh, getting two outs while allowing one hit and striking out one during a scoreless appearance.

Voliva yielded one hit, one earned run and walked two while whiffing one over an inning and two-thirds.

Each team had 10 hits. Lamm, Mozingo, Brooks and Yorgen had two apiece for the Pirates. Mozingo had a pair of doubles. Tyler and Watkins also had hits.

Brandon Grudzielanek was 3-for-5 for Memphis and Overbey went 2-for-3.

Nolan Blackwood (1-2) pitched the last three innings to get the win for Memphis. He allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and did not allow a walk while striking out four.
