Pirates clinch series at Memphis

MEMPHIS — An 8-2 win at Memphis on Saturday afternoon assured an American Athletic Conference series win for East Carolina.

Parker Lamm followed up on a six RBI performance in an 8-1 Pirates win on Friday night by going 4-for-5 with a run driven in and scoring twice in game two with the Tigers (12-23, 3-5 AAC).

Lamm has nine hits in ECU's three-game winning streak and has raised his average to .371.

Travis Watson went 3-for-5 for the Pirates (23-11, 5-3) with three doubles and four RBIs. Eric Tyler was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

ECU led 4-0 after four innings. After the Tigers scored twice in the sixth, the Pirates answered with four runs in the seventh.

The offensive support made Jimmy Boyd (5-2) a winner as he went five and two-thirds innings. The senior right-hander allowed six hits, two earned runs and walked one while striking out two.

Sam Lanier got the last out in the sixth before Matt Bridges went the final three frames for his first save. Bridges yielded two hits, walked one and struck out four.

Turner Brown's RBI single in the second put ECU ahead to stay. Watkins' double to left in the third scored Lamm and Tyler for a 3-0 Pirates lead. Lamm had an RBI single in the fourth.

Tyler singled to score Lamm in the seventh. Watkins drove in a pair with a double and Garrett Brooks had a sacrifice fly to give ECU an 8-2 advantage.

ECU outhit the hosts 11-7 and played errorless defense.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. today.
