Pirates prevent sweep with 7-3 win

NEW ORLEANS —  Parker Lamm had a two-run single as East Carolina scored five times in the sixth inning of a 7-3 win Sunday that kept Tulane from sweeping a three-game series.

Lamm went 4-for-5 with three RBIs as ECU improved to 21-11 overall and 3-3 in the American Athletic Conference.

Jacob Wolfe (4-3) started for the Pirates and went seven and two-thirds innings. He allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out six without a walk.

Sam Lanier got the last out of the eighth for ECU with a whiff and Joe Ingle fanned three in the ninth as ECU pitchers totaled 10 strikeouts.

Lamm had an RBI single in the fifth to tie the score at 1 after Jake Rogers had given the Green Wave (21-10, 3-2) a 1-0 lead with a home run in the first.

A one-out single by Bryce Harman got the Pirates started in the sixth. Travis Watkins followed with a single to center.

Harman scored on a double by Garrett Brooks to give ECU a 2-1 lead.

Watkins was out at the plate on a grounder to first by Turner Brown before Dwanya Williams-Sutton singled to right to bring in Brooks and put the Pirates ahead, 3-1.

Charlie Yorgen walked. Lamm singled to score Brown and Williams-Sutton. Yorgen came home on a wild pitch for a 6-1 advantage.

Grant Brown homered in the seventh and Lex Kaplan had an RBI single in the eighth as the Wave closed within 6-3.

The Pirates added a run in the ninth on an RBI double by Eric Tyler.

After a strikeout in the bottom of the ninth, Ingle hit a batter and walked one before wrapping up the game with a pair of strikeouts.

Williams-Sutton and Harman each went 2-for-4 as ECU outhit its hosts, 13-7.

The Pirates play the fifth of eight straight road games at UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
