CLEARWATER, FL East Carolina
freshman right-hander Joe Ingle survived a bases-loaded Connecticut
threat with a game-ending fly out to left as the Pirates moved into the
championship game of the American Athletic Conference tournament with a
4-2 win at Bright House Field on Saturday.
Ingle earned his eighth save as the
Pirates (39-20) moved into today's noon championship game against
Houston (ESPNU).
ECU was designated the visiting team
in its fifth win in seven contests with Connecticut in 2015. The Pirates
scored twice in the top of the first and led the rest of the way.
Walks to Hunter Allen, Charlie Yorgen
and Reid Love started the game for ECU. Kirk Morgan's ground ball to
short brought in the first run and Luke Lowery had an RBI single to
center field for a 2-0 Pirates lead.

Yorgen's sacrifice bunt provided a 3-1 ECU advantage.
Love singled to start the eighth and
Morgan's sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Pinch runner Parker Lamm
came home on a throwing error on a single to left field by Lowery as the
Pirates extended their lead to 4-1.
UConn (35-25) outhit ECU 10-6 but had
only lone runs in the first and ninth to show for it. Blake Davey drove
in a run in the bottom of the first and Bobby Melley had an RBI in the
ninth.

for the Pirates. He yielded seven hits and one earned run while striking
out six without a walk.

two-thirds of an inning with no walks and two strikeouts.
