GREENVILLE — East Carolina took a 7-0
nonconference win over Elon on Senior Night at Clark-LeClair Stadium on
Tuesday night.
The game was shortened to seven
innings because of threatening weather.
Pirate seniors Hunter Allen and Reid
Love had productive performances in their final home game of the regular
season.
ECU (33-20) has won 11 straight in
the series with the Phoenix (24-27), including all four meetings in
2015.
The Pirates gained the upper hand
quickly as Allen, the leadoff batter, walked and moved to third on a
single by Charlie Yorgen before scoring on a fielder's choice by Love.
ECU added a pair of runs in the
second for a 3-0 lead. Kirk Morgan was hit by a pitch to start the frame
and Eric Tyler walked. A sacrifice bunt by Travis Watkins advanced the
runners to second and third. A sacrifice fly by Garrett Brooks scored
Morgan and Allen's single through the right side brought in Tyler.
Luke Lowery led off the fourth with
his 12th homer of the season to start a four-run inning for the Pirates.
Tyler walked with one out and Watkins had an infield hit. A single by
Brooks loaded the bases.
Allen had an RBI single on a bunt for
a 5-0 ECU lead. Yorgen got aboard on a fielder's choice that brought in
a run. Love's double to right scored Brooks for a 7-0 Pirates advantage.
David Lucroy (3-4) allowed just one
hit over five innings. He walked two and struck out three. Nick Durazo
yielded the only other hit by the Phoenix as he and Evan Voliva each
tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
Allen finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs
as ECU outhit the visitors, 7-2. Love had a hit and two RBIs.
The Pirates will be traveling today
for an American Athletic Conference series at Cincinnati, which gets
under way at 6 p.m. Thursday.
ECU is 12-9 in league play, one game
behind Houston. The Bearcats are 15-36 overall and 6-15 in the AAC.
Cincinnati is 10-11 at home while the Pirates are 9-8 on the road.
