HOUSTON — East Carolina bounced back to top Houston 4-1 on Saturday and regain a share of the American Athletic Conference lead.

Before a national CBS Sports Network audience, the Pirates (32-19, 12-8 AAC) got eight strong innings from left-hander Reid Love in evening the three-game series after a 10-1 loss to the Cougars (34-17, 12-8) on Friday night.

Love (6-3) scattered nine hits while striking out seven without a walk.

"Getting beat like that yesterday and not playing as well as we should, it showed a lot of toughness coming out and getting this one," Love said.

The Pirates fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first after singles by Kyle Survance, Jacob Campbell and Corey Julks (RBI).

Luke Lowery's solo homer to left on a full count pitch with one out in the fourth tied the score at 1. It was Lowery's 11th roundtripper of the season.

Bryce Harman's two-run homer in the seventh followed a single by Eric Tyler and put ECU ahead to stay. The circuit clout was Harman's sixth this year.

Singles by Kirk Morgan, Lowery and Travis Watkins (RBI) in the eighth pushed the Pirates' lead to 4-1.

Joe Ingle retired Houston in order in the ninth, striking out the last two batters for his fourth save.

"I didn't want to come out," said Love, who threw 101 pitches, including 71 for strikes. "But my pitch count was up there and I know Joe is going to come in there and shut the door."

The Pirates outhit their hosts 10-9 on Saturday and both teams played errorless defense.

Each ECU player to appear at the plate reached base. Lowery and Tyler had two hits each.

ECU will send lefty Jacob Wolfe, who is 4-1 with a 2.99 earned run average, to the mound today against Cougars southpaw Seth Romero (6-3, 1.80) in a 1 p.m. start.
