GREENVILLE — Reid Love led East
Carolina's 5-4 win over Connecticut on Saturday at Clark-LeClair Stadium
as the Pirates halted a two-game losing streak and maintained a share of
the American Athletic Conference lead.
Love (5-3) pitched a complete game
and was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
The senior left-hander allowed nine
hits and four earned runs while walking one and striking out four.
The Pirates improved to 30-18 overall
and 10-7 in the AAC, tied with Houston for first in the league.
UConn (29-19, 8-9) got a three-run
homer from Vinny Siena with two out in the top of the ninth before Love
induced a ground out to end the game.
The Pirates scored a run in the
bottom of the first with the help of a throwing error by the Huskies and
led the rest of the way.
Hunter Allen, who went 3-for-4 in the
leadoff spot, had an RBI single for ECU in the second.
A three-run fifth pushed the Pirates'
lead to 5-1. Bryce Harman led off the frame with his fourth homer of the
season. Parker Lamm singled up the middle and Allen bunted his way
aboard. A sacrifice bunt by Charlie Yorgen put runners at second and
third. Love helped his cause with a two-run single to center.
The outcome evened the current series
with the Huskies at one win apiece. ECU hosts the deciding game at 12:30
p.m. today.
