TAMPA, FL — Four East Carolina
pitchers combined to shut out South Florida in a 6-0 American Athletic
Conference win on Sunday.
David Lucroy, Nick Durazo, Joe Ingle
and Jimmy Boyd limited the Bulls (24-12, 7-2 AAC) to a total of five
hits and totaled 11 strikeouts.
Durazo (2-0) went three innings for
the win in relief of Lucroy, who started and tossed two and two-thirds.
Ingle got an out to end the sixth before Boyd threw the final three
innings for his first save.
A three-run fifth inning put ECU
(21-15, 4-5 AAC) ahead to stay. Garrett Brooks had a two-out single
before Jackson Mims walked. Hunter Allen doubled down the left field
line to bring in Brooks for a 1-0 lead.
Charlie Yorgen drew a walk off of
Bulls reliever Michael Farley before two runs scored on a single to
right field by Reid Love.
The Pirates added two runs in the
eighth. Travis Watkins singled to right field with one out and Eric
Tyler doubled down the left field line. Bryce Harman was hit by a pitch
to load the bases before Luke Lowery had an RBI single through the left
side. ECU led 5-0 after a sacrifice fly by Brooks.
The Pirates manufactured the final
run in the ninth after a leadoff single by Allen. Yorgen's sacrifice
bunt moved Allen to second. Love's single to left center put Allen at
third and Watkins' sacrifice fly brought him in.
Allen, Yorgen, Love and Tyler had two
hits each. Love had two RBIs and Allen scored twice.
ECU had 12 hits.
The Pirates host UNC-Wilmington
(25-8) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
