GREENVILLE — A leadoff triple by Cody
Acker in the top of the ninth inning led to the go-ahead run for
Virginia Commonwealth in a 4-3 win over East Carolina at Clark-LeClair
Stadium on Friday night.
Acker scored on a fielder's choice as
the visitors improved to 10-9 while the Pirates (15-7) saw a six-game
winning streak halted.
Eric Tyler went 2-for-4 and drove in
all three ECU runs.
Tyler singled to score Parker Lamm in
the fourth inning and tie the score at 1.
Bryce Harman singled to start the
bottom of the sixth for the Pirates and Luke Lowery followed with a
double. Tyler singled up the middle to drive in two runs and give ECU a
3-2 lead.
Matt Davis had a sacrifice fly for
VCU in the third and a solo home run in the sixth.
Jimmy Boyd (2-4) took the loss in
relief of Evan Kruczynski, who went six and one-third innings.
Kruczynski allowed eight hits and three earned runs with two walks and
four strikeouts.
Boyd allowed one hit, the triple by
Acker, and didn't issue a walk while striking out three over two
innings.
Reid Love pitched the last two-thirds
of an inning.
The three-game series is scheduled to
continue with a 4 p.m. game today.
