ECU blasts Phoenix

ELON — East Carolina completed a sweep of its three-game series at Elon by pounding out 22 hits in a 20-4 win on Sunday.

The Pirates (13-6) led 8-0 before erupting for seven runs in the sixth inning. ECU added five more runs in the seventh before the Phoenix (8-9) closed the scoring with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Among the Pirates' hitting leaders were Reid Love, who was 5-for-7 with four RBIs, Travis Watkins, who went 5-for-5, Bailey Sugg, who hit a grand slam, and Luke Lowery, who belted his eighth home run and totaled five RBIs.

Eric Tyler, Jackson Mims, Hunter Allen and Cam Snow each had two hits.

Junior right-hander David Lucroy started on the mound for ECU and delivered six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits while walking three and striking out five.

Evan Voliva, Luke Bolka and Joe Ingle each threw an inning in relief.

The Pirates played errorless defense.

ECU is scheduled to host Princeton for a pair of midweek games, on Tuesday and Wednesday with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. for both contests.

The Tigers were 1-8 going into a game at Maryland today. They have played LSU, UNC-Greensboro and the Terps, all on the road.
