GREENVILLE — After a tough 4-3 loss to No. 24 Liberty on Sunday afternoon, East Carolina bounced back with a 9-2 win over St. John's on Sunday evening at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Pirates (2-4) finished the 12th annual Keith LeClair Classic with a 2-1 record.

ECU stranded the tying run at third in the bottom of the ninth against the Flames.

"I challenged our hitters after that heartbreaker," Pirates coach Cliff Godwin said. "We needed some offense because we had used up a lot of our bullpen."

ECU responded with 14 hits in the nightcap. Eric Tyler had a double and a home run.

Also collecting a pair of hits for the Pirates were Parker Lamm, Reid Love, Luke Lowery and Jeff Nelson.

David Lucroy started and went seven innings against the Red Storm (3-3). He allowed five hits and an unearned run while striking out three without a walk.

Lamm, Love, Lowery, Nelson, Jackson Mims and Hunter Allen had hits in a five-run fifth inning against St. John's.

Lowery had two hits with a home run and two RBIs to lead ECU against Liberty (3-3). His first-inning blast to left staked the hosts to a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position against the Flames.

Godwin planned to give the team Monday off in accordance with NCAA regulations.

"We'll work on defense some in practice Tuesday and get ready for Old Dominion," Godwin said.

ECU hosts its former Colonial Athletic Association and Conference USA opponent at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
