The frontcourt duo of Maurice Kemp and Robert Sampson dominated around the basket for the second straight game, leading East Carolina to a 62-53 victory over Georgia State Monday night in Atlanta.

Kemp, a senior forward, scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Sampson, a junior forward, had 12 points and hauled in 16 rebounds to help the Pirates achieve success in their first road expedition of the season. The pair also recorded double-digit scoring and rebounding performances in ECU's 82-72 win last Tuesday over Appalachian State.

Senior guard Shamarr Bowden contributed 10 points in only 19 minutes of action as the Pirates improved to 5-0.

ECU took the lead out of the gates, scoring the game's first 8 points before two minutes had elapsed. The Pirates led at the half 31-20 and did not allow GSU to get closer than 7 the rest of the way.

Junior forward Manny Atkins had 15 points and junior guard Devonta White added 13 to pace the 3-3 Panthers.

East Carolina dominated the rebounding battle 47-26.

The Pirates continue their road swing on Saturday with a 7 p.m. matchup against future Conference USA rival Charlotte. The game will be televised in the Greenville market by WITN-TV 7.
