From ECU Media Relations and staff reports

GREENVILLE — Allen Osborne, the latest addition to the East Carolina baseball staff, is destined for multiple roles in the coaching management chart of Randy Mazey, the Pirates' new head coach.

Mazey announced the addition of Osborne as an assistant coach on Thursday. Osborne will serve as the team`s recruiting coordinator and work with hitters, catchers, and baserunners.

"We`re very excited about having Allen join our staff," said Mazey. "He is an energetic and knowledgeable coach that shares our vision of taking this program to Omaha. He is also a very aggressive coach and recruiter that will only make our players and program stronger."

Osborne spent the past three years as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia, serving as one of the Bulldogs` hitting instructors, catching instructor, equipment manager and on-campus recruiting coordinator. He helped the Bulldogs win the 2001 Southeastern Conference championship and advance to the College World Series. Osborne also served as a graduate assistant on the Georgia coaching staff during the 1997 and `98 seasons.

He spent the 1999 season as an assistant coach at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla. At Chipola, Osborne coached the defense, baserunners, and served as recruiting coordinator and hitting instructor.

From 1997-2000, Osborne served as head coach of the Cortland Apples of the Northeastern Collegiate League. His team won the Eastern Division of the NCBL in 1999 and 2000. He served as an assistant coach during the summer of 1996 for Cortland, before assuming the head coaching duties from current Georgia Head Coach David Perno in 1997. The native of Chesapeake, Ohio earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall in 1995. He later earned a Masters of Education in Sports Management from Georgia in 1998.
