Pirate
Southpaw Snares Pitcher of Week Honor
From ECU Media Relations Narron Improves to 3-0 with
Four-hit Shutout
GREENVILLE — East Carolina junior left-hander Sam Narron is Conference
USA's Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Sunday night.
Narron, a product of Eastern Wayne High in Goldsboro, N.C., shut out
Central Florida for eight complete innings this past Friday. He allowed just
four hits-all singles-and did not allow a runner past second base in the
23rd-ranked Pirates' 4-0 win. He was lifted after eight innings after
reaching a pitch count limit. He struck out seven Golden Knight batters
without yielding a walk.
The victory came against a Central Florida team that won 51 games last
season and was ranked No. 14 in the final national polls.
Narron improved his record to 3-0 with a 2.14 earned run average in three
starts and has now won 11 straight decisions. He has struck out 16 batters
this season while walking none.
Narron, who was listed on two preseason All-America teams prior to the
2002 campaign, becomes the second Pirate honored by C-USA this season. Third
baseman Bryant Ward was the league's co-hitter of the week on Feb. 18.
