GREENVILLE — East Carolina first baseman Darryl Lawhorn, who plays a
number of other positions when the need arises, has been named a member of
Baseball America's Freshman All-America first team.
The Wilmington native hit an ECU freshman record 19 home runs, the most
by any player on Baseball America's Freshmen All-America team. His
.416 batting average and 68 runs batted in were second highest on the team
behind Rice first baseman Vincent Sinisi.
Lawhorn finished second in Conference USA in batting, home runs and third
in RBI. Lawhorn took home the league`s Freshman of the Year award, while
leading the conference in hits with an ECU record 104.
Florida State`s Stephen Drew was named Freshman of the Year by the
publication.
Earlier this month, Lawhorn shared Collegiate Baseball's National
Freshman of the Year award with the Owls' Sinisi and pitcher Phillip Humber,
also of Rice.
