Hawkins and Moore Pace Pirates Past Nike Elite

GREENVILLE, N.C. —East Carolina rallied form a 16-point first half
deficit to defeat Nike Elite, sponsored by Marathon Oil, 88-82, in Williams
Arena at Minges Coliseum Saturday night. The victory concludes the
exhibition season for the Pirates.
Five players scored in double figures for ECU led by senior Brandon
Hawkins’ 20 points. Hawkins scored 17 first half points and finished 7-of-11
from the field, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. Sophomore Jonathan
Moore tossed in 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting overall and 3-of-7 from behind
the arc.
Sophomore Erroyl Bing recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10
rebounds. Senior Kenyatta Brown also added 13 points, hitting three
three-point baskets. Junior Travis Holcomb-Faye contributed 11 points and
six assists.
Trailing 37-21 with 7:05 remaining before halftime, the Pirates went on a
26-8 run to close the half and take a two-point lead at intermission, 47-45.
As a team the Pirates made 15-of-35 shots from three-point range and
scored 31 points off 21 turnovers.
The Pirates conclude exhibition play with a 2-0 record in preparation for
Wednesday’s season opener against Rutgers in the first round of the BCA
Invitational in Raleigh. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at the Entertianment
and Sports Arena.
