Defensive end Wes Hofacker of Allen (Texas) High has accepted a football
grant with East Carolina, bringing another quality player from a winning
program to a signing class that has grown to 30 members.
Hofacker, who is 6-feet-2 and 235 pounds, had 60 tackles and six sacks for
an Eagles team that went 13-2 in 2003 and reached the Texas 5-A Division II
semifinals. Hofacker also forced four fumbles and had one fumble recovery.
He had initially given a verbal commitment to Northeastern but relented
after being recruited by ECU defensive line coach Art Kaufman and visiting
the Greenville campus.
Hofacker made first team all-district despite missing a portion of his
senior season because of knee surgery. Hofacker made the Allen High varsity
as a sophomore. The school, located about 30 miles north of Dallas, has over
4,000 students in grades 10 through 12.
Hofacker projects as a linebacker for the Pirates with a solid combination
of speed and strength. He runs 40 yards in 4.7 seconds and bench presses 300
pounds.
