Garrard not complaining after Jags win

When a quarterback completes only eight passes for 79 yards, it's usually not a good day.

David Garrard put up those numbers against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and nobody, least of all Garrard, had any complaints, according to a Florida Times-Union report.

"It's really beautiful when you can have an offense where you can hand the ball off and they make plays like that. It makes it easy on the quarterback and the passing game,'' Garrard said.

The Jaguars didn't need the passing game because they ran for 375 yards, a franchise record.

Said Colts defensive lineman Anthony McFarland: "All I know is, when the other team throws for only 60 yards, you should win in this league.''

Instead, the Colts lost 44-17 because they couldn't stop the run.

"It wasn't the best day, but we got a 'W' so it was a great day,'' Garrard said. "I'll take a game like this. I'll take two or three like it as long as you win. That's the most important thing. Even though my numbers and my stats were down, I don't care about that.''

Rutgers' Schiano named coach of year

Greg Schiano of Rutgers has been named coach of the year during ESPN's College Football Awards Show. Schiano led the Scarlet Knights to just their second 10-win season in school history in 2006. Rutgers finished the regular season 10-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Rutgers achieved its first top-10 ranking in school history and the Scarlet Knights have been ranked for 10 consecutive weeks, the longest stretch ever for a Rutgers squad. The Scarlet Knights were No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll on Nov. 12.

Rutgers will travel to Houston to face Kansas State in the Texas Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 27, at 8 p.m. at Reliant Stadium. The game will be shown on the NFL Network.

Wolfpack dominates Lady Pirates in Raleigh

N.C. State ’s Ashley Key and Shayla Fields combined for 34 points to lead the Wolfpack women's basketball team to a 64-38 win over East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. With the win, State improves to 8-2 on the year, while the Lady Pirates fall to 4-6.

LaCoya Terry tallied a team-high 12 points in the loss, and dished out two assists. The Lady Pirates shot just 28.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the foul line. N.C. State fired 42.6 percent from the field and a lights-out 91.7 percent from the free throw line. The Pack held the Lady Pirates to their lowest point total of the season and the fewest points in the second half, with just 17.

The Lady Pirates will take a week off for exams before heading to Cancun , Mexico, for the Caribbean Classic Dec. 17-21. East Carolina will face No. 24 Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 3:00 p.m., and will face Detroit on Dec. 20 at 8:30 p.m.
