RALEIGH WTSB-AM 1090 has announced it
will add another frequency with the acquisition of WDUR-AM in Durham,
effective May 2, 2005.
The Raleigh station, which bills itself as Triangle Sports Talk, said in a
news release it has reached an agreement with Clear Channel Network to
simulcast its current sports programming on the Durham frequency to enhance
its coverage of the Triangle.
Triangle Sports Talk has served as the
home of
Pirate Talk with Bonesville.net's Denny O'Brien
during football season.
With the new frequency, said the
release, the station will expand its daily broadcast cycle to 24 hours and
has plans to broadcast ESPN Radio, Atlanta Braves baseball, Wake Forest
football and basketball and select UNC-Chapel Hill sports programming.
On fall weekends, the station said it
will also air Westwood Ones Sunday Night Football and Westwood One college
football and basketball.
We are very excited to acquire a
24-hour station, stated Triangle Sports Talk programming director Taylor
Zarzour. We believe this really advances our credibility with listeners.
While there are more things to be done to grow our signal, this is a huge
step in that process.
Zarzour hosts The Morning Sports Drive
each weekday on the station from 7-10 a.m.
The station's announcement also noted
its plan to move into prep sports programming in the fall, with broadcasts
of high school football and basketball games of the week featuring
Durham-area schools.
Triangle Sports Talk's
locally-originated programming can be streamed live over the Internet from
the station's Web site,
www.trianglesportstalk.com. The site
also hosts archived programs and provides station and programming
information.
Triangle Sports Talk is privately owned
and operated by Triangle Sports Broadcasters, LLC. The company entered the
Raleigh-Durham market in July 2004.
