East Carolina University Chancellor Dr. Steven Ballard will appear as a guest on “Talk of the Town” on Talk 1070 (WNCT-AM) and Cable 7 television in Greenville on Monday afternoon.

The program will be simulcast live on Talk 1070 and Cable 7 at 5 p.m. and will be replayed on Cable 7 at 10 pm Monday evening.

The interview, to be conducted by Talk of the Town host Henry Hinton, will be the first in-depth interview the new ECU chancellor has given on radio and television since he accepted the job in Greenville in May, said a press release from the stations.

The discussion will focus on Ballard’s vision for the university, noted the announcement, delving into topics ranging from academics and athletics to the recent passage by the N.C. General Assembly of a $60 million bill to fund the newly established Eastern North Carolina Cardiovascular Institute.

Ballard came to Greenville from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he was provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2001.

Talk of the Town, produced daily Monday through Friday, is heard on Talk 1070 in the Greenville market and telecast on Cable 7, a local origination cable station which reaches approximately 55,000 households in Pitt, Beaufort and Martin counties.

Both stations are operated by Hinton Media Group, whose president is Hinton. An ECU alumnus, Hinton also serves as the chairman of the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce.

Radio 1250 unveils new programming lineup

Pirate Radio 1250 (WGHB-AM) announced it is launching a new fall menu of daily sports shows this month, including at least three hours of programming each weeknight featuring East Carolina, local high school teams and the NFL.

The station, with studios in Greenville, said it will also broadcast marathon football game day coverage of the Pirates beginning in September, with extensive pre-game and post-game shows wrapped around its broadcast of each ECU contest.

On Sundays, according to the announcement, Pirate Radio 1250 will broadcast day and night play-by-play of NFL games, carrying the games of the Carolina Panthers during the afternoon hours and the league's weekly Sunday night game in the evening.

The station, operated by ECU alums Troy Dreyfus and Jonathan Ellerbe, is entering the second year of a broadcasting relationship with the school's athletic department. Among Pirate Radio 1250's regular offerings will be the weekly "The John Thompson Show," featuring ECU's head football coach, and "From the Booth," a weekly program hosted by "Voice of the Pirates" Jeff Charles, ECU's Director of Electronic Media.
