The search committee for the
athletics directors position at East Carolina has become aware of former
NFL all-pro safety Mike Reinfeldt as a potential candidate.
Reinfeldt, 50, recently
declined a 5-year contract extension as senior vice president of the Seattle
Seahawks to pursue a working environment that would allow him more quality
time with his family.
Reinfeldt played nine seasons
in the NFL and has college experience as former senior associate AD at
Southern Cal from 1987-90.
He has a masters degree in
business administration and was chief financial officer of the Green Bay
Packers from 1990-93, when former ECU player George Koonce became familiar
with his ability and integrity.
Koonce, a member of the ECU AD
search committee and a former Packers and Seahawks player, planned to
contact incoming chancellor Steve Ballard on Reinfeldts behalf.
Ballard is
becoming involved with finalists
generated by the search committee this week. The candidates include former
Air Force Academy AD Randall Spetman, South Carolina associate AD and
Gamecock Club director Jeff Barber and ECU interim AD Nick Floyd.
