KINGSTON, RI Akeem Richmond led
East Carolina's 3-point barrage in a 91-62 win over McNeese State in a
consolation game of the NIT Tipoff Tournament on Monday night.
Richmond had 25 points as he returned
to the Thomas M. Ryan Center, where he played for Rhode Island before
transferring to ECU.
Richmond was 6-for-11 behind the arc
and the Pirates connected on 14 of 26 as a team from long range.
A total of five players reached
double figures for ECU (5-1).
Paris Roberts-Campbell scored 16
points, Michael Zangari added 13 points and freshman Brandan Stith had
11 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Caleb White tallied 10
points and sparked a 14-2 run with a three that put the Pirates ahead to
stay at 17-16.
ECU led 43-29 at the half.
Roberts-Campbell had 13 points in the
second half.
The Pirates shot 51.8 percent from
the field for the game and limited the Cowboys to 37.7 percent.
Ledrick Eackles led McNeese State
(2-4) with 19 points.
ECU plays UNC-Asheville at 5 p.m.
today at the Ryan Center to conclude its play in the NIT Tipoff.
Pirates coach Jeff Lebo noted that
the absence of Marshall Guilmette due to a knee ailment has reduced the
frontcourt rotation.
"We'll see how we handle that
adversity against Asheville," Lebo said. "They have some legitimate
size."
