Senior forward Maurice
Kemp, senior guard Miguel Paul and junior forward Robert Sampson teamed
up for 54 points to lead East Carolina to a 74-63 victory over Norfolk
State Saturday night in Greenville.
Kemp had a season-high 23
points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line to
help the Pirates bounce back from a pre-Christmas
road loss to Massachusetts
and improve to 8-3 on the season.
Paul converted 11 of 12
charity shots in compiling 19 points, dishing out 8 assists in the
process. Sampson had 12 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.
Junior guard Pendarvis
Williams scored 15 points and freshman forward Rashid Gaston added 12 to
pace the Spartans. The loss was NSU's fourth straight, all on the road.
ECU, which built a 38-31
halftime margin, led from start to finish, but the Spartans stayed
within a run of wiping out the advantage throughout the game.
The Pirates remain at home
this week for matchups with Campbell (Wednesday, 7 p.m.) and N.C.
Wesleyan (Saturday, 5 p.m.) before hitting the road to launch the
Conference USA slate at Memphis on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
