Junior forward Darrius
Morrow scored 21 points as East Carolina extended its winning streak to
three games with an 81-53 victory over UNC-Greensboro Saturday in
Greenville.
Morrow made 7 of 8 field
goal attempts to set the pace for the Pirates' best shooting performance
of the season. ECU knocked down 26 of 48 (54.2 percent) of its shots,
including 8 of 16 (50 percent) from three-point range.
Senior guard Jontae
Sherrod scored 17 points, senior forward Jamar Abrams had 13 and senior
guard Brock Young added 10 to join Morrow in double figures.
Sophomore guard Korey Van
Dussen had 13 points and freshman guard Trevis Simpson contributed 10
for UNCG (0-4), which managed just 35.2 percent accuracy from the floor
and 23.5 percent from behind the arc.
East Carolina (5-2)
out-rebounded the Spartans 42-25.
The Pirate led 37-24 at
the half and did not allow UNCG to close the gap closer than 10 in the
final frame.
The Spartans, members of
the Southern Conference, are coached by ECU alum and former Southern
Methodist coach Mike Dement.
East Carolina continues
its five-game home stand when Charlotte pays a visit on Wednesday (7 p.m.)
The Pirates will host Fayetteville State on Dec. 4 and Old Dominion on
Dec. 7 before an 11-day break in
the schedule and a
subsequent five-game road stretch.
