Senior forward Jamar
Abrams scored a game-high 16 points and sophomore guard Erin Straughn
added 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead East Carolina to a 74-46 victory
over Erskine Friday night in Greenville in the season opener for both
teams.
Freshman guard DaShaun
Hall had 15 points and sophomore forward Chris Gore added 11 for the
Flying Fleet, members of the NCAA Division II Carolinas Conference.
East Carolina led at the
half 38-25 and steadily added to the margin after intermission.
The game marked the
official competitive debut of Jeff Lebo as head coach of the Pirates.
Lebo's charges got an unofficial taste of action on Nov. 5 in an 85-58
exhibition win over Montreat.
Formerly the coach at
Auburn, Lebo
took over the reigns at ECU last
March, succeeding Mack McCarthy.
East Carolina hosts
Campbell Monday night at 7 p.m. before heading south to participate in
the Charleston (SC) Classic where the Pirates are paired in a first
round matchup on Thursday with North Carolina State (6 p.m.; TV: MASN).
