Sophomore forward Darrius
Morrow scored 17 points and was joined in double figures by four of his
teammates as East Carolina closed out the non-conference part of its
schedule with a more-difficult-than-expected 68-58 win over North
Carolina Central Sunday afternoon in Greenville.
Junior guard Jontae
Sherrod scored 13 points, junior center Chad Wynn had 12 points and 13
rebounds, and another pair of juniors, forward Jamar Abrams and point
guard Brock Young, each added 12 points for the Pirates (6-8).
Junior guard C.J.
Wilkerson led N.C. Central with 18 points. Sophomore forward T.J.
Granger scored 16 points and junior guard Michael Glasker contributed 10
for the Eagles (2-12).
The Pirates led at the half
33-27 after holding a 13-point advantage on three occasions in the
middle portion of the frame.
N.C. Central cut the
margin to 2 points with 4:59 left in the game before East Carolina
regained command.
The Pirates will sail into
dangerous waters when they open their Conference USA schedule on
Wednesday at UAB, which is 12-2 after a 73-72 victory at Arkansas on
Saturday.
