Pirates take Coker in
hoops opener

Senior guard Sam Hinnant
scored 21 points and sophomore center Chad Wynn added 15 as East
Carolina opened its 2009-10 basketball campaign with a 71-56 victory
over Coker Friday night in Greenville.
Hinnant made 10 of 10 from
the free throw line. Sophomore guard Brock Young had 7 points and 9
assists for the Pirates.
The Cobras were led by
sophomore guard Vatrick Thompson with 16 points, senior guard Josh
Poston with 12 and junior forward Mason Ambler with 11.
East Carolina (1-0) led
32-22 at the half and built a 29-point advantage with a little more than
seven minutes remaining.
Coker (0-1) is a Division
II school located in Hartsville, SC.
East Carolina hosts
Division II St. Andrews Presbyterian on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Knights,
whose campus is in Laurinburg, opened their season Thursday night with a
104-91 loss at UNC-Wilmington.
