Harris
Interactive announced Wednesday that it had finalized the recruitment of the
panel for the 2006 Harris Interactive College Football Poll that has been
commissioned by the Bowl Championship Series.
Bonesville
columnist Denny O'Brien was tabbed as one of the voters in the poll, which
for a second season will be one of the components in the BCS Standings
Formula used to determine the two teams that will play in the BCS National
Championship game and those that qualify for at-large selection.
O'Brien,
an East Carolina alumnus, is also the editor of The Pirates' Chest
magazine, which is published on behalf of the ECU Pirate Club by Bonesville
Media Services.
This 2006
Harris Interactive College Football Poll is comprised of 114 panelists and
includes former coaches, players, administrators and current and former
media.
According
to a release from the Rochester, NY-based market research firm, the panel
was randomly drawn by Harris Interactive from among more than 300
nominations supplied by the 11 Division I-A conferences and independent
institutions. The panel meets its criteria for sample design, Harris
Interactive says, and is a statistically reliable representation of all 11
Division I-A conferences and independent institutions.
The participants’ names (listed below) will be posted to
harrisinteractive.com/bcspoll, and
each week, beginning Sept. 24, the Harris Interactive College Football Poll
overall rankings will be released and posted on the Web. Only for the final
rankings of the season, on Dec. 3, will the participants’ individual
rankings be released.
O'Brien
has indicated that if Harris Interactive rules allow him to do so, he may
disclose information about his own rankings in his weekly Bonesville.net
column.
The BCS
formula for the 2006 season will consist of the Harris Interactive College
Football Poll, the USA Today Coaches Poll, and an average of six computer
rankings (Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth
Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe). The first BCS standings will be
released on October 15th.
