Loss No Hindrance to ECU's Climb Up the
Polls

East Carolina fell from the unbeaten ranks last week, but it didn't
slow the Pirates' steady upward trek in all three of the major weekly
collegiate baseball rankings.
ECU, 13-1 after a week in which it lost on the road to
Virginia Commonwealth before returning home to sweep a three-game series
from Pace, moved up to No. 18 in both the
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll and the
BaseballAmerica Rankings.
Last week, the Pirates were 22nd on the Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper list and were ranked 20th by BaseballAmerica.
In the preseason, ECU was pegged at No. 29 by the Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper and was unranked by BaseballAmerica.
After debuting last week for the first time this season in
the
USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll at No. 23, the
Pirates have edged up to 22nd in that poll.
Six C-USA, Carolinas Teams Show Up in Rankings
Fellow Conference USA members joining the Pirates in the
rankings are Houston (8th, 12th and 13th in the BaseballAmerica, Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper and ESPN/USA Today polls, respectively) and Tulane (21st,
26th and 23rd).
Other Carolinas teams in the rankings are
Clemson (2nd, 2nd
and 2nd), South Carolina (6th, 4th and 5th) and Wake Forest (13th, 11th and
12th).
The new rankings were released Monday and were based on
results of games through Sunday, March 10.
