GREENVILLE — East Carolina is on a mini-roll, if that's what you can call a two-game winning streak.

Erroyl Bing had 20 points and seven rebounds to help the Pirates gain an 81-71 victory over Middle Tennessee State on Thursday.

Bing was 7-of-14 from the floor, including two from 3-point range, to lead ECU (4-6) in scoring. Kenyatta Brown and Travis Holcomb-Faye each added 19.

East Carolina, which has struggled around the basket while awaiting the January 8 return of Gabriel Mikulas, its suspended frontcourt leader, received a significant effort down low from agile 6-10 freshman Moussa Badiane, who blocked five shots in addition to scoring 6 points.

The Pirates also got a physical inside presence from reserve Damane Duckett, a defensive tackle from the Pirate football squad. The 6-6, 280-pound junior made his debut in an East Carolina basketball uniform one night after ECU concluded its gridiron season in Wednesday night's GMAC Bowl.

The Pirates shot 75 percent from the line for the game, hitting 12 of 16 attempted. The free throw shooting was led by Holcomb-Faye and Bing, who were 5-for-7 and 4-for-6 respectively.

ECU head coach Bill Herrion was complimentary of his team's overall effort and noted that the play of Holcomb-Faye, in particular, has a significant bearing on the Pirates' effectiveness from game to game.

"It might have been our best 40 minute effort of the year from start to finish," he said. "A real key to this basketball team is Travis Holcomb-Faye. The better he plays, the better East Carolina plays."

Tommy Gunn had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Middle Tennessee State (5-5), and John Humphrey added 16.

ECU will have a chance to earn its third straight win when it hosts Radford on Saturday night, December 22, at 7 p.m.
