Hokies Bury Pirates Under Avalanche of Threes

BLACKSBURG, VA (AP) — East Carolina got solid scoring efforts from
Jonathan Moore and Erroyl Bing, but not much else went right for the Pirates
on Tuesday night as they lost their fourth straight game, 90-62, to Big East
foe Virginia Tech.
Carlos Dixon scored 20 points to pace the Hokies (3-1). Tech also got
double-figure contributions from Joe Hamilton, who added 18, and Bryant
Matthews and Terry Taylor, who chipped in 11 apiece.
ECU (2-4) was led by Moore, the game's leading scorer, with 21 points.
Bing, who had registered double figures in all five of the Pirates' previous
games, kept the string going by scoring 16 points.
Virginia Tech hit 15 treys — 10 in the first half. A 14-3 run at the end
of the first half gave the Hokies a 43-33 lead at intermission, and the
Hokies opened the second half with a 17-1 run.
Tech led by as many as 37 in the second half but the final margin was cut
by a late flurry of Pirate baskets gleaned from full-court pressure.
