K-Town tandem powers
rout of Saints
From staff and wire
reports
GREENVILLE — Sophomore
guard Jeremy Ingram and senior forward Corey Rouse, both products of
Kinston High School, slammed Limestone with a one-two punch Wednesday
night to help East Carolina win its first game in almost a month.
Ingram, playing in only
his third game for ECU, scored 25 points and Rouse added 16 as the
Pirates (4-6) pummeled the visiting Division II Saints 87-54 in front of
a remarkably sizable Christmas break crowd of 4,076.
The victory snapped a
five-game losing streak for East Carolina, which last claimed a win in a
road game at Wofford on Nov. 30.
Ingram, who spent his
first year and a half of college at Wake Forest before transferring to
the Pirates last spring, logged just 24 minutes and Rouse played only 22
minutes as 14 ECU players saw action.
The Pirates sailed to a
47-26 halftime lead as Ingram made 7-of-10 shots from the field,
including 5-of-7 threes, in recording 23 first half points.
Shawn Poppie led the
Saints (3-6) with 14 points.
ECU shot 60 percent from
the field, compared to just 37 percent for Limestone. But the Saints
were better at the free throw line, where they shot 67 percent, compared
to a paltry 41 percent for the Pirates.
ECU took the advantage in
points from turnovers, 21, compared to 7 for the Saints.
The Pirates host UNC-Wilmington
Saturday in a 2 p.m. game that will mark the first meeting between the
former Colonial Athletic Association rivals since 2001.
