Eagles throttle Bucs

ROCK HILL, SC — James
Shuler scored 14 points to lead Winthrop to a 70-48 victory over East
Carolina Sunday.
Shuler was 4-of-8 from the
field and 6-of-8 on free throws as the Eagles (5-2) won their 19th
straight home game.
The Pirates (3-5) hit
three 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the game, then didn't make
another field goal until Sam Hinnant's 3-pointer with 2:13 remaining in
the first half.
Winthrop led 34-18 at the
break.
Corey Rouse was the only
East Carolina player to get in double figures, scoring 12 points. He
also led the team with 10 rebounds.
Jeremy Ingram, a transfer
from Wake Forest who sat out the fall semester, saw his first action for
the Pirates. The sophomore guard scored 9 points on three 3-pointers in
20 minutes of playing time.
Otis Daniels, Michael
Jenkins, and Craig Bradshaw each had nine points as 10 Eagles scored.
Winthrop had its second
best shooting day of the season, making 23-of-43 field goals (53.5%).
East Carolina converted
only 13-of-42 field goal attempts (31%).
The Pirates visit Toledo
Wednesday night for 7 p.m. match-up, then take a one-week Christmas
break before returning to action with a 7 p.m. home game against
Limestone on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
