GREENVILLE — Kyle
Greathouse scored 12 points to lead Western Carolina to a 56-48 victory
over poor-shooting East Carolina Saturday night.
Greathouse made three
3-pointers in the first half as the Catamounts (6-6) built a 30-25
halftime advantage.
For the game, the Pirates
shot less than 32% from the field (13-41) and under 16% from behind the
arc (3-19).
WCU connected on 46% of
its field goal attempts (19-41), including 50% from three-point range
(8-16).
Western Carolina led 48-36
with 6:20 remaining in the second half, but East Carolina (3-4) narrowed
the gap to only four points on a Courtney Captain layup with 59 seconds
remaining.
Captain stepped out of
bounds on the Pirates' next possession, turning the ball back over to
the Catamounts, who then extended the lead to six on free throws by
Jared Outing and Greathouse.
Sam Hinnant, Taylor Gagnon
and Corey Rouse each had 10 points for the Pirates, and Rouse collected
11 rebounds for the game's only double-double.
Corey Muirhead added 10
points and five rebounds for the Catamounts.
East Carolina will have an
off-week before its next outing, a 3 p.m. game next Sunday at Winthrop.
