NEW ORLEANS — Ivan Pjevcevic scored a career-high 24 points to lead Tulane to a 77-71 win over East Carolina on Saturday night that extended the Green Wave's season, ended the Pirates' campaign and finalized the tenure of ECU coach Bill Herrion.

Pjevcevic was 9-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the 3-point range. Taylor Rochestie scored 12 points and Quincy Davis added 9 for the Green Wave.

The teams finished the regular season tied for 12th place in the Conference USA standings, but the win gave Tulane the head-to-head tiebreaker for the final spot in in the Conference USA tournament. The 14-team league invites only 12 squads to the tournament, which this year will be conducted Mar. 8-12 in Memphis, TN.

The Pirates' failure to make the cut for the tournament also means the end of Herrion's 6-year stint as the team's coach. Herrion was informed by ECU officials on Feb. 22 that he would be not be retained as coach but would be offered a reassignment to another position within the school's athletic department.

Tulane (10-17, 4-12 C-USA) led the Pirates 40-28 at the halftime on 62.5 percent shooting from the field for the first half.

In the second, East Carolina (9-19, 4-12) picked up its shooting percentage and rallied. The Pirates pulled to within 71-68 on a layup by Corey Rouse with 1:32 to go. But Davis scored on a putback for a 73-68 lead with 36 seconds left for Tulane.

Mike Cook, who leads the Pirates with 14.9 points per game, scored 20 points and Corey Rouse added 16. Moussa Badiane, the team's only senior, had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

East Carolina outrebounded Tulane 48-30 while the Green Wave led in assists, 19-9. Both teams had 11 turnovers.
