Pirates hammer Knights

GREENVILLE — Corey Rouse
had 19 points and 15 rebounds as East Carolina rolled to a 88-40 win
over St. Andrew's on Monday, snapping a
five-game losing streak.
Moussa Badiane had 10
points and 11 rebounds, Japhet McNeil had 15, and Tom Hammonds scored 14
to help the Pirates (5-7) gain of taste of victory for the first time
since a 73-71 win over Toledo more than a month ago.
Taiwon Grooms led St.
Andrew's with 13 points.
East Carolina held St.
Andrew's to 22.8 percent shooting, a new ECU defensive record, and
yielded the fewest points in the 37-year history of Minges Coliseum.
The Knights (5-2) made
just five field goals in the second half and finished the game 13-of-57
from the field.
The Pirates opened a
10-point lead in the first five minutes of the game and never looked
back. East Carolina outscored St. Andrew's 40-10 in the first 15 minutes
of the second half and led by 51 late.
ECU's next game is
Wednesday at 7 p.m., when the Pirates host South Florida to begin a 16-game gauntlet of Conference USA battles.
