GREENVILLE — East Carolina's lack of success on the road and its shooting woes have been well documented, but the Pirates' loss in what was generally viewed as a winnable game against DePaul on Tuesday night demonstrated that playing at home can be an even more frustrating experience.

Sam Hoskin had 22 points and 12 boards as the Blue Demons outshot, outrebounded and generally outplayed the Pirates in all aspects of the game to earn a business-like 77-63 Conference USA victory.

Drake Diener added 15 points and Marlon London had 10 for DePaul (14-8, 6-5 C-USA), which shot 53 percent in the second half to take control of the contest.

Derrick Wiley had 18 points to lead East Carolina (12-11, 3-9), and Gabriel Mikulas added 14.

The Pirates led early, 18-12, before the Blue Demons went on a 21-11 run in the last 10 minutes of the first half for a 33-29 lead at the break.

DePaul opened the second half with a 16-5 run, taking a 49-34 lead. The Blue Demons led by as many as 17 points and the Pirates didn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

East Carolina shot just 37 percent in the final frame after converting 41 percent in the first half.

Andre Brown added 11 rebounds for DePaul, which outrebounded East Carolina 40-28 and shot 49 percent for the game.

The Pirates will have a chance to right the ship on Saturday when they host cross-state rival Charlotte (7 PM.)
