ECU football players involved
in car wreck
By The Associated Press
GREENVILLE — East Carolina
quarterback James Pinkney and two teammates were injured an automobile
accident Wednesday night and are listed as questionable for Saturday's game
at Houston.
The others involved were center Hunter Wood and reserve guard Trey Magee,
who was driving. Magee was cited for having an open alcoholic beverage
container that was discovered during a search of the vehicle.
The school said Magee passed a road breathalyzer test, and Pirates coach
John Thompson planned to punish Magee through the team.
``On the fortunate side, I'm thankful they weren't seriously hurt or
worse,'' Thompson said in a statement. ``On the other hand, this will force
some late changes in our preparations for Houston.''
Pinkney, who the school said had an unspecified leg injury, was selected
Conference USA offensive player of the week after leading East Carolina to a
38-28 victory over Army last Saturday. He was 26-of-36 for 285 yards and
three touchdowns.
Wood (shoulder) and Magee (face) are part of an offensive line that has
allowed 23 sacks this season.
