Don't mess with Rice prez
From staff and wire reports

Steve Ballard, East Carolina's
incoming chancellor, might want to be particularly cordial to Rice
University president Malcolm Gillis when the latter joins him in the
chancellor's box on those future occasions when the Owls football team
visits Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
After all, it might not be
wise to rile up an opposing CEO who has a penchant for the manly art of
boxing especially in the event the teams play a close game in which
emotions are piqued.
Gillis, whose school will be
joining ECU in Conference USA on July 1, 2005, has announced he plans on
fighting former heavyweight boxing champ George Foreman in a bout for
charity, reports The Associated Press.
"I look to come out of this
with nothing but the satisfaction of having been in the ring with a world
champion," Gillis told the Houston Chronicle. "I'm trying to show that old
people can do these things. We can dust off old skills and use them again."
Gillis, 63, has been
negotiating for a few months with the 55-year-old Foreman for a bout in the
ring.
Foreman's last fight was in
1997, when he lost to Shannon Briggs.
At press time, Bonesville.net
had not determined when the 55-year-old Ballard, who was an accomplished
athlete during his college days, engaged in his last fight.
