Billikens name Soderberg to replace Romar ST.
LOUIS (AP) Brad Soderberg became the head basketball coach at Saint Louis
University on Friday, one year after joining the Billikens as an assistant.
The 39-year-old Soderberg replaces Lorenzo Romar, who last
week became head coach at the University of Washington, his alma mater.
``My face actually hurts I've been smiling so much,'' said
Soderberg, who had also been a finalist for the coaching vacancy at
Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Soderberg, an assistant to Dick Bennett at Wisconsin for
five years, became interim coach for the Badgers for the 2000-01 season
after Bennett retired three games into the season.
Soderberg led the Badgers to a 16-10 record. They lost in
the first rounds of the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments.
After Wisconsin chose Bo Ryan as Bennett's replacement,
Soderberg joined Romar's staff at Saint Louis.
