It’s the game Bill Herrion had been waiting for. The Pirates
demolished Radford Tuesday night 89-42.
This is my fifteenth year calling East Carolina basketball
on the Pirate Sports Radio Network and I’ve never seen a more impressive
performance.
The defense was stifling, the offense scored at will, the
passing was exquisite and the effort was superb.
What really strikes me is the balance this team has. It’s
not out of the realm of possibility that this team could have five players
average in double figures. Right now it’s a well-oiled machine running on
all cylinders.
The road gets tougher this weekend at Old Dominion on
Saturday night.
Football finale
It will be all over Friday night at about 10 o’clock. That’s
not a bad thing. Players, coaches, fans and, yes, the broadcasters, can all
attest to this being a very long season in more ways than just time.
Please come out and support the seniors who’ve represented
this program so well. Senior night is always a special day.
Cincinnati has a bowl game riding on this match up and you
know Rick Minter’s Bearcats will be fired up. A win and the ‘Cats play North
Texas, the Sun Belt Champs in the New Orleans Bowl.
A win for ECU as the spoilers can put a positive stamp on
what’s been a tough year. It could help carry over to spring ball and next
season.
Richard Alston told me Monday that he felt the bowl loss to
Marshall last year carried over to this year’s struggles. Final games are
important and this one is.
News ‘N Notes
It’s been another hectic broadcast week. After the return
from Radford on Wednesday, it was time to get geared up for UC. Here’s the
schedule this week: Friday night, ECU vs. UC, airtime on the Pirate Sports
Radio Network is 6:10 p.m.; Saturday night, it’s hoops and the Pirates
travel to Old Dominion. Airtime on the PSRN is 6:30 p.m. The game will
also be televised on WITN Channel 7 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Billy Weaver
joins me for the telecast. Reece Edwards will call the play-by-play on
radio with Si Seymour.
Sunday night it’s the final Steve Logan Show of the year.
Call the coach at 7:00 p.m. on the PSRN.
