GREENVILLE — Bill Herrion wasn't sure what
to expect in East Carolina's first season of Conference USA play. This year,
the fourth-year Pirates coach has a pretty good idea.
Inexperienced and outmanned, few thought ECU
could compete in a league headlined by traditional bullies Louisville,
Marquette, and Cincinnati.
Not only were the Pirates competitive, they
raised a few eyebrows by knocking off both the Cardinals and Golden Eagles
at home, while taking the Bearcats to the brink of an upset in their
inaugural C-USA outing.
Now, after a small taste of big-time
success, Herrion and the Pirates have their sights set on making the steep
climb up the C-USA ladder. And though East Carolina has just one season of
C-USA play under its belt, it appears the Pirates now understand what it
