Twas the
week before Christmas and all through Pirate Land,
----------
We spent another
day, hoping ECU would get its man.
----------
The list was made
public against the wishes of some,
----------
With hopes that
just maybe the right man would come.
----------
That list, boys and
girls, wasn’t that long,
----------
It showed a Rhoads
and a Thompson and a Coach Charlie Strong.
----------
Since this is the
ultimate Holliday time, a Doc's on the list as well,
----------
With a Thompson as
well as a Callaway, plus another that might just jell.
----------
Kirk Doll is his
name, a Buc from the past.
----------
And many, like me,
want a guy who will last.
----------
Will Santa bring us
all a “Doll” Christmas day?
----------
If so, it will come
early, because that’s the Pirate way.
----------
Santa has his list
and he’s checking it twice.
----------
He wants a great
Pirates coach, regardless of price.
----------
St. Nick has some
gifts that you just can’t refuse.
----------
Here’s hoping he’s
brought wisdom to the searcher, Chancellor Muse.
----------
Ignored by voters — so far
East Carolina has yet to pick up a vote in the weekly
Associated Press Top 25 basketball poll.
However, the unbeaten Pirates are turning heads everywhere.
If East Carolina can win its next three games, there is a great chance that
the Marquette game will give this team a chance to crack the national
rankings.
The Pirates host George Mason on Thursday before hitting the
road to take on Campbell and Coastal Carolina.
ECU Coach Bill Herrion laughed a bit when I asked him about
the possibility of a national ranking.
“Well, that’s going to be one of our goals with this
program,” said Herrion. “We want to play in the post season, and that’s the
most important thing. All of the rest of that stuff will come.”
The Pirates dusted Mount Olive on Saturday night at Williams
Arena. This members of the team enjoy one another, and it shows on the
floor.
But the coach maintains there is still plenty of work to do.
“If you don’t think that we think there is a bunch to do,
just come to practice one day,” Herrion said. “We will continue to battle at
practice, because I think that is really paying dividends in the games.”
Thursday night’s game is a double dip, with the Lady Pirates
opening the twin bill at 5:30. The men host George Mason at 8 PM.
