Football notes:

Paul Jette
(Baylor SID) |
|
Paul Jette is poised to reboard the Pirates ship. Expect the
official announcement on July 1.
After spending last season on the staff at Baylor,
Jette will likely return to the defensive backfield coaching
responsibilities he carried out at East Carolina in 1999 and 2000. Jette
will take charge of a secondary that allowed the most passing yardage in
Conference USA last season. Jette’s daughter Katharyn was so homesick in
Waco for Greenville that the family established legal guardianship for her
with the family of a friend so that she could return to Rose High. ...
Former Pirates in the Canadian Football League include
quarterback Marcus Crandell of the Calgary Stampeders, quarterback Dan
Gonzalez of the Montreal Alouettes, receiver Marcellus Harris of the
Hamilton Tiger-Cats and receiver Keith Stokes of Montreal.
Basketball notes:
The National Basketball Developmental League has expressed
interest in Pirates guard Kenyatta Brown, who completed his eligibility in
2002. Another ECU senior guard, Brandon Hawkins, recently attended a tryout
camp in Charlotte for European teams.
Baseball notes:
ECU athletics director Mike Hamrick spent some time with
former Pirates baseball coach Keith LeClair on Tuesday and said he will
value LeClair’s input in the hiring of a new baseball coach. The top
candidates appear to be Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore, Georgia
Southern coach Rodney Hennon, Tennessee assistant Randy Mazey and Western
Carolina coach Todd Raleigh. ... Conference USA has announced that its
baseball coach of the year award will be renamed the Keith LeClair coach of
the year award.
