Raeford (NC) Hoke County High School star Andre Pegues is the first pass catcher to chart a heading to hook up with heralded quarterback Holton Ahlers in East Carolina’s recruiting class of 2018.
Pegues committed to ECU after returning home from an on-campus visit last weekend. He is the sixth player to join the crop of future Pirates.
An athletic, 6-3, 200-pounder, Pegues has displayed a penchant for making big plays for coach David Jorgensen’s Bucks, averaging more than 20 yards per catch as a sophomore and producing almost 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
A number of offers had begun to emerge for Pegues, who considered Appalachian State, Liberty, Ivy League suitor Princeton and other schools before making his decision.
ECU assistant coaches Brandon Lynch and Keith Gaither were involved in the recruitment of Pegues.
Pegues becomes the first receiver in the class, joining Ahlers (Pitt County D.H. Conley) and center Peyton Winstead (Raleigh Leesville Road) on the offensive side of the ball.
Defensive players that have committed to ECU are safety Myles Berry (Greensboro Dudley), defensive end Trey Love (Greensboro Southeast Guilford) and outside linebacker Gerard Stringer (Suffolk, VA, Nansemond River).
