Persistence paid off for East Carolina in its long-running courtship with Southeast Guilford star Trey Love.
A target of the Pirates since 2015, the 6-3, 236-pound defensive end went public on Twitter with his acceptance of a scholarship offer after visiting the campus for last week’s Junior Day.
Recently-named ECU defensive line coach and associate head coach Robert Prunty, whose recruiting prowess was among the qualities that made him a hot commodity when he was recently in the job market, sealed the deal with Love.
A three-star talent, Love is the first defensive player to commit to the Pirates’ recruiting class of 2018. Quarterback Holton Ahlers of Pitt County D.H. Conley verballed to the Pirates in late January and Raleigh Leesville Road center Peyton Winstead committed in mid-February.
