ELON — Travis Watkins had six RBIs, including a second inning grand slam, as East Carolina stopped a three-game losing streak with an 11-7 win over Elon at Latham Park on Tuesday night.

The Pirates (14-7) went ahead to stay as Watkins doubled to score Turner Brown in the top of the first inning. ECU added another run in the frame when a bunt single by Eric Tyler allowed Watkins to come home.

A bases-loaded walk to Charlie Yorgen in the second gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead. Watkins’ grand slam to left center brought in Brown, Yorgen and Dusty Baker for a 7-0 ECU advantage.

Bryce Harman had an RBI single in the fifth for the Pirates and later came home on a passed ball as ECU went ahead, 9-3.

The Pirates added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Yorgen and a ground out by Watkins that brought Baker in.

Baker went 3-for-5 as ECU had 13 hits. Watkins, Tyler and Luke Bolka each had two hits.

Yorgen, Brown, Watkins and Bryant Packard had doubles for the Pirates.

Davis Kirkpatrick (1-0) started and went two and one-third innings for the win.

Tyler Smith, Sam Lanier, Ryan Ross and Joe Ingle also saw mound duty.

Joe Satterfield and Kyle Jackson hit home runs for the Phoenix (9-12).

ECU hosts North Carolina at 6:30 tonight.
